Germany's smallest Fishing Museum
image author: Frank Preuß Do come and visit Germany's smallest Fishing Museum in Schwedt at the Oder !
It was opened on the 1st of September in 2002.
Since then a fishing hut with exhibition pieces from the beginning of the 19th century until the present was created on ca 200 m².
It is situated directly at the Oder near the Oder-Bridge at the Schwedter Kietz.
This is located at the west banks of the "Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthaler-Wasserstraße", which is sometimes called for short 'canal'.
This traditional location was used in the olden days by the Schwedter fishermen
because of its proximity to the market place as reloading place of the catches and to mend torn fishing nets. From here the fishermen were able to reach all fishing grounds up to the Oder.
The fishing garden has developed into a popular destination for young and old since 1989. With the reunification and later the building of the Uferradweg (bank-cycling-way), the west banks of the 'canal' experiences new qualities due to its new design and care.
Here hiker, families, lovers, cyclists and skater enjoy nature's beauty and appreciate the proximity to the old town and the "National Park Unteres Odertal".
